Binghamton
This weekend is the first time I have been home since the flood. I drove around the past two days and saw the havoc it wreaked on my hometown. I’m not sure if Binghamton and the Triple Cities will ever fully recover, but I hope it does.
Even though I have made my home elsewhere for 12 years, I love my home. I’m sick of people putting it down. I’m tired of hearing people tell me what a shithole it is, or that no one wants to stay here. Sure it’s not the happiest place, nor the most economically vibrant. But, it is my home, always will be, and I am proud to say it is. I’ve traveled extensively in my life, and I’ve seen some terrible towns. I’ve also seen beautiful places…but even in some of those, I would never choose to live there.
To those who deride Binghamton, Endicott, Endwell, Vestal, Johnson City, Conklin, and the surrounding towns and villages for being downtrodden and a terrible place, I ask that you follow the simple rule: “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all.” Because, if you start pissing on my hometown, chances are I’ve been to, or close to, your hometown, and I will make sure you know how shitty your hometown was to me.
I’m looking in your direction SUNY Binghamton students from Long Island….
